My problem with the public service ads

With the CWG around the corner, TV and radio ad slots are considerably filled with the preaching ads 'issued in public interest'. Now, there's nothing wrong in advocating good hygiene and healthy practices and encouraging people to behave well. But my problem lies with the state. An individual who does not litter has the right to damn a person who doesn't. But the state does not have the right!

When the state is telling people not to spit, defecate or urinate in public places, isn't it also its duty to ensure that citizens have adequate facilities to follow these directives? We have only seen the sad images of the used toilets in the CWG stadiums, but have we been shown any kind of 'facilities' provided for the construction workers?

State tells us not to litter - where are the dustbins on the roads? Not to urinate - I agree there has been some progress on this - but much improvement needs to be done. Not to spit - show me ONE spittoon in the entire city of Hyderabad?! We don't have toilets in fuel Stations like most of the 'well-behaved' countries do.

So, dear government, why don't you fix ALL these things before being our Mommy and telling us what not to do! If you can't, then leave us alone. Those who can follow, will. Those who can't - you have no right to ask them to.

Well said. Completely agree. And whatever progress is via the NGO route. And the same gentleman actor was seen playing tapori roles not long ago.
